Our Little Bottle fed calf continues to provide us and our guests with much enjoyment. It has been some work to convince him he is not a bovine, and that his new discovery of his horns is not for poking folks. We seem to be getting our message across somewhat, and at present we are working on his habit of licking peoples bare legs that come visiting with shorts on. He has been a huge source of enjoyment for us, and the video below will give you a few laughs of his athletic ability at cross-country.
Born on December 26th, 2013, was ZEUS. Since we have always wanted a "Mascot" Watusi for the Ranch, we decided to Bottle feed this one. Born from our best cow, and Bwana, our best bull we hope ZEUS lives up to his family tradition and grows a LARGE set or horns. This now little steer is red with some white patches on his rear end and flank. As with all Bottle feds, he has no idea he is a member of the Bovine family, we think he has a bit of a psychological complex and is torn trying to decide if he is human, horse, and canine (lets hope he does not hang out with the turkeys to much)! He is growing like crazy, and at three months his horns are 2" long. He wears a dog blanket on the cold days, and has been doing some daily exercise in the covered arena, and of course is a big help on construction projects. We will keep you posted on how he grows!
We just want to welcome you to our NEW Skookumhorse Ranch Website. We hope you find it easier to navigate through and interesting as far as everything we are up to here on the Ranch. I am not sure if the Groundhog seen his shadow the other day, but by working around the ranch today at -25C, I can only hope spring is around the corner. I will BLOG more as interesting news comes from the Ranch!
